anlysis response to Illegal Immigration "Lets talk about it" Sofi Seck

There is something that Seck points out that deserves more attention: the anti-immigrants wall; 20 years after Berlin, the other walls of shame remain. A few days ago, we were celebrating the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin wall. This wall had separated West Berlin and East Berlin. However, the united States have decided to build a wall in order to limit the number of immigrants. Are these walls there to protect or to separate? Like Seck I believe this “tortilla border” is not a solution. Not to mention that this wall will harm the bilateral relations between the United States and Mexico.
I believe that we must keep in mind that they run away from their countries for a good reason, poverty and wars for example. Therefore, developed countries should work in partnership with developing countries to solve the problem by organizing meetings; for instance they should invest in these developing countries to help develop new forms of jobs and/or create more training programs for people with no or low qualifications. If we continue identifying immigration as a problem rather than as a potential resource we will never find a solution
In conclusion it is clear immigrants come to the United States illegally because of the poor conditions and lack of job opportunities in their own countries. Enforcing more of a punishment on employers that hire illegal immigrants rather than those hired would probably be more beneficial to lowering the number of people who enter the country illegally. After all, it is not the illegal's fault for being offered a job; the employer really is the one at fault. You also mention that the wall built on the Mexico-U.S. border is expensive and degrading which I also find is true. Not only has the wall been extremely expensive since it's been made but it will continue to cost us. The wall really is not preventing illegal immigration; it is only making it more dangerous for the masses that do attempt it. There needs to be a lot more governmental support, and more so in the countries from which majority of the illegal immigrants are coming from. If the U.S. wants to tackle the issue of illegal immigration and all of the negative factors that come with it, we need to invest in countries like Mexico instead of wasting several millions on a wall that serves as no other purpose than killing non-U.S. citizen
